Accessibility

We are committed to ensuring The Armstrong is a welcoming space for everyone. Our newly renovated Foyer and Cossham Hall offer full level access from the street, providing a seamless experience for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. The foyer features a dedicated accessible toilet, unisex facilities, and baby changing areas, alongside a box office designed with accessible counter heights.

To ensure our performances are inclusive, the Cossham Hall is equipped with a professional hearing loop system, and we offer flexible seating for wheelchair users (please notify us when booking). Professionally trained assistance dogs are always welcome.

Parking

The Armstrong is located in the heart of Thornbury, with several public car parks within a few minutes' walk. Please note that these are South Gloucestershire Council pay-and-display car parks.

  • St Mary Street Car Park (Short Stay): Located directly opposite the venue. Ideal for shorter visits, meetings, or popping into the Box Office. (Maximum stay: 4 hours).

  • Rock Street Car Park (Short & Long Stay): A large car park approximately a 2-minute walk from the venue. This car park offers both short-stay areas and long-stay bays for those attending longer performances or workshops.

  • Castle Court Car Park (Short & Long Stay): Located near the High Street, approximately a 5-10 minute walk from the venue.

By Road

Thornbury is easily accessible from the M4 and M5 motorways.

  • From the North (M5): Leave the M5 at Junction 14 (signed for Dursley/Wotton-under-Edge). Follow the B4509 toward Falfield, then turn left onto the A38 south. Follow the A38 for approximately 3 miles, then turn right onto the B4061 (Gloucester Road) which leads directly into Thornbury town centre.

  • From the South (M4/M5 Interchange): From the M5 south, exit at Junction 16 (Almondsbury Interchange) and follow the A38 north toward Gloucester. After approximately 4 miles, turn left at the traffic lights onto the B4061 (Alveston Hill), following signs for Thornbury.

By Bus

Thornbury is well-served by regular bus services from Bristol and the surrounding areas.

  • From Bristol City Centre: Take the T1 service (First Bus) from Bristol Bus Station or The Centre. This is a fast, frequent service that typically takes about 45–50 minutes.

  • Arrival: Alight at the Rock Street or Thornbury Health Centre stop. The Armstrong is a 2-minute walk from the Rock Street bus stands.

By Train

Thornbury does not have its own active railway station, but you can reach us via nearby connections.

  • Nearest Stations: The closest mainline stations are Bristol Parkway and Yate.

  • From Bristol Parkway: Take the T1 bus or a taxi (approx. 15-20 minute drive).

  • From Yate: Take the Y2 service or the Westlink on-demand bus service directly to Thornbury.
